About the Artist
Christa Joy Sol
I am a neurodivergent artist, an autistic woman with ADHD. Being diagnosed in 2021 I have learned how important it was to see other women like me openly talking about this. Since they are the ones who gave me the courage to find answers of my own.
Plants and art are special interests of mine. While the style and mediums may change from time to time these are the constants that remain. I am inspired by the peace and joy that plants (and nature in general) bring. I hope to bring a piece of that peace and joy into your home through my art.
I have been drawing and painting since childhood. My first real mentor was my Great Opa, Hendrik Opdendries, an incredible artist in his own right. He would look over my work and give me advice. He also would 'assign' me homework and specific techniques to practice.
I later went to the University of Windsor, where I received a Bachelors Degree in Drama. I focused primarily on costume design and scenic art. But also loved both designing and applying stage makeup. I had two incredible teachers who taught me so much, gave me many opportunities, and instilled a greater confidence in my art.
After school I returned to my hometown and worked for the family business. I had been volunteering with a local children's theatre company when the pandemic hit. Looking for a creative outlet again I started to paint. Initially met with art block, a strong desire to paint, but no inspiration. I decided to start painting the plants I have in my home. Thinking with 70 plus plants I would at least have something to paint for a while. Little did I know that those plants would be what sparked my absolute joy in painting again.
Thank you for taking the time to get to know me a little bit!
